CALL FOR ARTIST
The National Blues Museum (NBM) is seeking an artist in residence for our annual summer concert series, Blues on the Block (BOTB), which is a weekly outdoor festival in the MX district of downtown St. Louis. This festival brings together local Black heritage music, visual artists, and creatives all in one place for a free experience provided to the local community an interactive, beautiful, colorful, and enriching urban space.
NBM will host one artist in residence for the duration of BOTB, which includes the following Saturdays: June 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th, July 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th, and August 5th, 2023. BOTB begins at 4 pm and ends at 7 pm and during that time the artist in residence would be creating art with a live demonstration or leading an art activity for participants. Once BOTB has concluded, the artist’s work would be on display at NBM from Monday, August 25th to November 17th, 2023. The Artist in Residence receives a $2,000 stipend for their residency, and a $500 stipend for materials for their practice.

The NBM believes that all people have the right to celebrate and engage in meaningful arts and cultural experiences. Each member of the community should have access to the arts which reflect and nurture individual identities, affirm personal value, and foster belonging in the community.
HOW TO APPLY
This is an open call to visual artists, over the age of 18, living in the St. Louis Metro Area (including St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and Metro East [Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Madison, Monroe, and St. Clair counties]). BIPOC artists, women artists, LGBTQIA+ artists, and disabled artists are especially encouraged to apply. This call for artist will close on Monday, March 27th at 12 pm.
Each application will require the following information:
- General information, including name, phone, email address, zip code, artistic medium(s), website, and social media accounts (if any).
- Artists may submit up to three artistic samples for consideration of their art practice. Artwork should be submitted should be no larger than 1080 x 1080. Digital files must be in JPG/PNG format, 5 MB or smaller.
