The National Blues Museum and Portfolio Gallery proudly announce our new partnership to present more underrepresented emerging artists from our community. The National Blues Museum community is filled not only with musical prodigies but also with the creative genius of artists working in all mediums. Robert A. Powell, the founder of Portfolio Gallery, will curate the exhibit of original works with the assistance of visual artist and poet Lillian Gardner (@tapezoid).

The NBM and Portfolio Gallery Biennial Community Art Show accepts artists’ entries in the metro area within 25 miles of the museum. All artists, whether student, amateur, or professional are welcome to submit original designs in many mediums, including painting, photography, printmaking, works on paper, sculpture, fiber art, and ceramics. Pieces should be framed and ready for hanging or sculpture installation. Please upload a (jpg/png) of your piece (no works larger than 24×36 in.), on this dedicated website by September 6, 2022. Pieces selected for display will receive a $125 honorarium and membership to the National Blues Museum.
The Portfolio Gallery and Educational Center is active in the St. Louis metropolitan area, providing classroom instruction to children, youth, adults, and the developmentally disabled. In addition, a vital mission of the Portfolio Gallery is to provide opportunities for underrepresented emerging African American artists. Founder, curator, and artist, Robert A. Powell’s efforts over the past 33 years have also led to receiving many awards, including the Missouri Arts Award 1995, Maryville University-John E. Simon Community Service Award 2001, Best Citizen, Riverfront Times 2003 Best of St. Louis, Arts and Education Council, Excellence in the Arts 2009 and as “One of the 100 Most Inspiring St. Louisans, St. Louis City Centennial Celebration of the NAACP.
